Clear It Out Mid Challenge Card

The challenge on the Clear It Out Blog this week is to make a “manly” card using 2 or more patterned papers.  So with that in mind, and with inspiration from my DH, I came up with this card.  My stash includes paper from  the Tim Holtz Idea-ology Paper Stash DESTINATIONS and a digital stamp from Dude Time Doodles (colored with copics B93, B95, B97, E0000, E13, E95, W-0).  The round digital sentiment is one that I made and it will be available for FREE on Friday so make sure to drop by and pick it up.  I used pop dots to adhere the ‘dude’ and sentiment, and bent the edges of the sentiment up a little to add some depth.  A little faux stitching was added to finish it off.

And here’s a look at the inside …

Our sponsor this time is Dude Time Doodles. The randomly chosen winner will receive a $10 gift certificate to spend at the Dude Time Doodles store.  So pop on over to Clear It Out and check out what the DT has made and we'll help you clear out your stash.

This makes card #29 of the 100 cards in 100 days challenge.

Monkey See, Monkey Do…

Yesterday was a lazy day for me because I was exhausted after our NYC trip.  In my list of tips I forgot to mention that you should be prepared to walk a lot if you ever visit NYC.  We did soooooooo much walking.  I found out I had muscles I never knew existed, lol.

Before I went away we celebrated my nephew’s birthday.  Here is the card I made for him…

apoh-DSC03093

I am disappointed that I used copics to frame the window with but I was in a hurry to get it done so I grabbed the first thing I saw … my copics.  In retrospect I would probably frame it with some cardstock or designer paper.   I am happy with the little monkey – a digital stamp by Bugaboo – which I colored with my copics.  I used a glitter pen on the balloon but next time I would use actual glitter since you can see the strokes of the pen.  Those strokes don’t show up as much in real life as they do for the camera, however.  Caption says “It’s your birthday … go bananas.”

This makes card #28 in the 100 cards in 100 days challenge.  I’m warning you in advance that I’m doubtful I will complete this challenge (which ends on September 18th for me….siggghhhhhh).

Honey, I'm Home

I don't believe I actually ever mentioned that I was going to be away. Did ya notice, lol. I spent the last 4 days with my family in New York City. We have never been there before so this was definitely a new experience. If you have never been to NYC before I have a few words of advice.

First, do NOT try driving in NYC traffic. It's crazy!! Luckily we had booked a room in New Jersey just outside of NYC and we used the hotel shuttle to get back and forth but even that was a crazy experience. I cannot believe how those people maneuver through the traffic. Take my word for it and do NOT drive in NYC, lol.

Second, downtown NYC and Time Square after 6pm are crazy insane! Wall to wall people all over the place! Insane but exciting all at the same time. Just make sure you breathe slowly through your nose, walk fast, and keep your eyes straight ahead and you'll be fine, lol.

And finally, using a hop-on-hop-off pass is a great way to get around the city and learn a few things as you go...the FIRST time you visit NYC. Next time, however, I would definitely learn how to use the subway system because it would save a ton of time. The hop-on-hop-off pass is a bus that tours around the city making stops along the way. Since it doesn't take a direct route from point A to point B it takes much longer to get to where you want to go.

So, that's my advice and I'm sticking to it. Hope it comes in handy someday.

Something old … something new…

If you are looking for another way to use your designer paper scraps take a look at what my daughter did…

kayla's dresser

This was an old wooden dresser that my daughter had in her room.  She wanted something different but instead of spending money on a new dresser she decided to take some of my designer paper and decoupage it onto the drawer fronts of her old dresser.    Then she painted the rest of the dresser with paint that was left over from painting the inside of her closet, distressed it a little with some sandpaper and purchased some new handles for the drawers.  Brilliant idea, isn’t it?

Crafters Of Faith: It’s In The Mail

apoh-DSC03082Today's card is one I made for the Crafters of Faith blogging group ~ a group of Christian bloggers that met and bonded on Split Coast Stampers to craft, fellowship, make friendships and more!  This month, our hostess was Kelly! She made this challenge fun by mailing each of us packets that included some designer papers, embellishments, a stamped image and some ribbon.

She asked use at least 2 sheets of DSP and 3 of the embellishments on our card/project and, most importantly, to have fun!

My project includes the following ingredients:
  • 3 DSP by Colorbok
  • 1 Really Reasonable Ribbon
  • 1 Prima flower
  • 1 button by Bag 'o' Buttons
  • 1 image by CC Designs (Butterfly Nora)

I started with Recollections brown cardstock as my base layer (cut to A2 size).  I cut and layered 2 of the DSPs and adhered those to the front of my card.  I cut a rectangle and de-embossed it with my cuddlebug polka dot folder and then I added a piece of ribbon.  I coloured my stamped image with copics, added some glitter to her wings, and popped her up on the de-embossed rectangular piece and glued that to the front of my card.  I tied my ribbon using the bow easy and secured a flower to it with a big white brad then glued that to the bottom corner of my card.  I added a button to the center of the brad.  I finished off the front of my card by stamping my sentiment on a piece of white cardstock and layering it on top of a leftover piece of the plain blue paper which I adhered to the top of my card.

apoh-DSC03085
For the inside of the card, I cut a piece of green cardstock and glued that down.  I cut a piece of white cardstock and used my Tim Holtz sponge applicator to color the edges with blue colorbox chalk ink. I secured that to the green cardstock, added my stamped logo to the back of the card and I was done!

This makes card #27 out of 100 in my card challenge.

Linky Party Advertising…

There is a site on the internet called The Blog Guide.  Among a lot of other things, you can advertise your blog there and find some great blogging tips.  If you are interested, check this place out...

It was suggested that I provide my freebies as JPG files as well.  So, I’m am linking you to a file of JPGS of all the freebies I have offered to date.  They are in a ZIP file and you will need a program that can Unzip them. (I use IZARC free download).  If you have problems and need help you can email me.  My address can be found on the left.

Enjoy.

I Need Ideas…

I’m looking for some ideas that will help me get more followers.  It’s always so hard as a new blogger to get the word out. What are the kind of things that you look for when visiting a blog.  What kinds of things can I add to make my blog more interesting?  What would you like to see?  Any thoughts/ideas/tips/suggestions would be a great help to me.  I’m not saying I can incorporate them all at once but over time I will do my best to include the things you are looking for.

Thanks for your help!

100 in 100 Challenge Card #26

Good Saturday afternoon, everyone.  I’m just about to leave for a BBQ at my father-in-laws.  Tis the season, yum yum.  Before I go I wanted to make this quick post.  My boss had surgery on Thursday so I made her this card to help speed along her recovery.  This makes card #26 out of 100.  I should mention that these images are both digital freebies.  The nurse is a Dearie Dolls image (isn’t she adorable). I just love Dearie Dolls.   The sentiment is by Meljen’s.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.

Good Morning & 100 in 100 Challenge Card #24…

How is everyone this fine Saturday morning?  I am actually not feeling 100% today.  It could be due to the fact that I’m on the tail end of my week of vacation … or it could be that my computer is most likely on the way to becoming a door-stop. I’m not sure but I feel drained and I have a headache.

Yesterday my computer just out of the blue made this horrific sounding noise and it scared me so much that I just shut down right in the middle of a post without closing any of my open applications.  After about 5 minutes I summed up enough courage to start it up again.  The noise was still there but not as loud.  It kept making the noise on and off for the better part of the day so at 7pm I called up the Geek Squad and asked them if they would take a look at it.  They did and it was determined that my fan is what is making that noise.  I guess that’s good news and bad news.  The good news is that it’s not my hard drive.  The bad news is that even though it’s just a fan, to have it replaced would cost half of what it would cost to purchase a new laptop.  Not worth it as well as I don’t have the money to do either.  So I bought a cooling mat instead (Targus Lap Chill Mat for those of you who are interested.  It has 2 fans operated by USB port) and it’s helping to keep the computer cool which helps the fan to not have to work so hard.  The other thing I did was lower my power settings, however, in doing that the performance of my computer is lessened so it’s a give-take sort of thing.  Oh well, at least it’s working … for now … and the noise is pretty much gone away.  Having said all that, I did a complete backup of my computer in case of emergency (NOTE:  You should do this at the very least once a month.  You can set up an automatic schedule to accomplish this task).

I know I probably sound like a ridiculous ninny but my computer is my baby.  I would be absolutely beside myself without it.  Call me addicted (and I know that I am) but this is my form of stress-release.   I NEEEEED MY COMPUTER, lol.

Alright, enough of my whining and on to the real intention of this post.  Below you will find my very, very simple card #24/100 in my 100 cards in 100 day challenge.  I only have until September 18th to complete this challenge so I really need to get a move on.

Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.

100 in 100 Challenge–Card #22

It’s been an interesting day with all the weather patterns we have going on around us.  Storm seems to be hitting everyone BUT us .. and we need the rain!!

I mentioned yesterday that I had a card to share with you.  I’m still learning how to use my copics.  I have the hardest time trying to figure out where the shadow should be.  This makes card #22 out of 100 for the challenge.

Enjoy.

100 in 100 Challenge–Card #21

Hubby took our dog to the vet yesterday.  $250 later --- and that was without the heartworm medications that we declined.  That would have added another $135 to the bill.  Love my dog – hate the vet bills!!   So, after having a cow over the cost of the vet bill I decided to make this easel card in honor of cowsnotice the handmade yellow baker’s twine *grin*

This makes card 21 out of 100.   Enjoy.

100 in 100 Challenge–Card #20

I’m going to give my mom this card on her birthday in August.  I planned to enter it into a challenge but after I had it all done I realized that I didn’t use the focal image they required so it’s back to the drawing board, lol.  This makes card #20 out of 100 in the challenge.  Only 80 more to go.  I can do that, right?  Enjoy.

Here Is My Handmade Baker’s Twine

I have finally had a chance to upload my photo of the baker’s twine I made (from tutorial below).  I played with it a few times before I came up with something I liked.  It’s pretty easy to do once you get to know which colors bleed.  I found that dark blue, most reds, and purple bleed more than other colors.  I used both my Copic markers and my Bic Mark-Its.  The blue, coral and pink are copic colors and the yellow and purple are Mark-Its.  If you would like the actual copic #’s or mark-it names give me a shout and I’ll go and have a look.  Enjoy.

100 in 100 Challenge–Card #19

Only had a little time today to throw this simple card together.  I hope to be less busy by the weekend so I can make some serious progress on my card challenge!  Something smells really good in my kitchen (my daughters are cooking – yay!)…bruschetta pasta.  If it tastes as good as it smells I will be enjoying one awesome dinner!  Enjoy the rest of your day, friends.

100 in 100 Challenge–Card #18

I finally had a chance to create this card for Crafters of Faith .. a splitcoasters group I belong to. It’s a little late and it doesn’t have all the required elements but it has a few (sun, blue, something popped up).  I work as an accounts administrator in a local high school so I’ve been pretty busy this past month trying to make sure everything was finished before the end of our school year which was yesterday.  School’s out for the summer, however, I still have to work … there just won’t be any kids or teachers around to bug me, lol.   Enjoy the rest of your Saturday.

100 in 100 Challenge–Card #17

I read in my local paper today that Elton John is going to be building a summer home not too far from where I live.  I would love to know what was going through his head when he signed on the dotted line to the deed of the sale of the land. (if this does, in fact, turn out to be true).  It’s not that it’s a horrible place to build a summer home but, honestly, I can think of a million other places I’d rather spend my summer.  So, Sir Elton, what were you thinking?

It’s been a long day and I’m heading to bed but, before I do, let me leave you with card #17 of my 100 cards in 100 days challenge.  apoh_DSC03008

100 in 100 Challenge–Card #16

Loving this challenge! I am not, however, loving the way the ribbon doesn’t show it’s true colors in the photo.  It appears to be more peachy where, in real life, it is definitely a baby pink.  Not sure how I feel about this one overall but it does make card# 16 in the 100 cards in 100 days challenge.

Father’s Day..and 100 in 100 cards 6 - 9

Well, I’ve been busy most of the day.  I went to Church with my family this morning, lunch with my parents, and then we came home and the girls gave their dad his Father’s Day gift.  This year we went big and got him a new computer.  His old one was, as the girls would say, about to explode any minute.  It literally sounded as if there were a ticking time bomb inside of it, lol.  Anyhow, being that he’s not all that techie I spent the rest of the afternoon and the better part of the evening getting it all set up for him.  He’s a little thrown off because this one is so quiet … it does not make one single noise aside from one beep when it is turned on.  I told him that’s a good thing, lol.
Below are the cards he received from the girls (1st card) and from myself (2nd card).  My youngest daughter made the card from her and her sister and I think she did a really great job!  The oldest made him some of his favorite cupcakes and they were oh so yummy!

Once In Lifetime…

A true friend is someone you can be yourself around, and never have to fake it. This person knows everything about you and still loves you just the same!  They are someone you can laugh with, cry with, and treasure the moments with.  I call this a once in a lifetime friendship.

I wrote this poem in honour of my once in a lifetime friend.  You know who you are!

Once in a lifetime someone touches your life
Attaching themselves to your heart without intending to
Believing in you with an unshakeable confidence
Offering you strength and hope when you have none
Encouraging you to reach deep into your soul to unveil a fresh perspective,
allowing you to see yourself in new ways
Standing steadfastly by your side in times of suffering & uncertainty
Building you up and empowering you to be a positive influence
to those you come in contact with
Challenging you to continually strive toward the goals set before you
When this someone comes into your life, hold onto them and be thankful
that you have been blessed with the gift of a once in a lifetime friend.

Masculine Birthday

002

I always find it harder to come up with masculine ideas for cards, don’t you?  I created this one for my nephew.  The word “birthday” was done freehand using some fancy lettering techniques I’ve been trying out and I coloured it in with my BIC Mark-It’s.  I curled the banner to give it a wavy, 3-d’ish look.  I embossed the word “wish” in white.  It’s one of my more basic cards but I think it turned out OK.

Apr-21 077Last Saturday, I was at my local scrapbook store that just happens to be owned by a friend of mine.  After standing at the copic rack for 30 minutes or more trying to figure out how the stink to figure out the numbering system, lol, I decided to give up figuring and just get one of each pastel color .. so 1 green, 1 blue, 1 pink etc etc.  My friend, and the owner, happened to walk by so I told her what I was doing.  The look of horror on her face told me that this was a big no-no.  So I ask what I was suppose to do because I didn’t have a clue how they worked.  Well, just my luck that there was a free class scheduled to happen about an hour later.  So I grabbed a few markers in 1 color tone with her help (because you needed 3 for the class), paid for them and went to grab a tea while I waited for the class to start.  Apr-21 078

Can I just tell you now that I love COPICS!!  After the class was over I came home to try my hand at coloring one of my Tilda stamps.  I think I did a pretty decent job, lol.  I can only imagine the $$’s I’ll be spending now trying to build my copic collection up!  (just don’t tell my hubby, lol)

Pretty in Pink

Apr-21 001

I wanted to make a card for my co-worker who just had a baby girl but I didn’t have any solid pink cardstock.  Instead, I improvised and took some white layering cardstock and completely sponged it with pink pigment ink and then mounted it on my white base layer.  I added a frame and used some liquid pearls for the centers of the flower bursts, an epoxy word quote, and a little sheep to make this the perfect card for a baby girl. To finish it off, I sponged a white envelope with the pink pigment ink to make it match.

Have a great day!

Something new…

I’ve decided to try my hand at something new. From time to time I’m going to offer free digital stamp sentiments. I’ve uploaded a couple of sample photos (below) to show you what I have to offer. Of course, the actual freebie will be in PNG format with a transparent background. Let me know what you think.
(These are just previews .. freebies have not been uploaded to a sharing site yet.)

Take it or leave it …

I want to let you in on a little secret. I get a lot my card making supplies for free by simply clicking a button. It takes me about 20 minutes a day and I cash in $25.00 worth of points every month for paypal or amazon giftcards. It may not sound like much but, hey, it's FREE money. I’m not here to push this on anyone at all but if you are interested in learning more about this feel free to shoot me an email … apieceofheart.blog@gmail.com

Thinking of you…

Not sure I’m fond of this one but thought I’d share it anyhow. At the very least, it will be good to look back at some day and see the progress I’ve made.

Have a great day!
