February Technique Blog Hop–Ink Layering

Welcome to

It's month two of our year long adventure into different card-making techniques,
folds and paper crafting products. Join us the second Saturday of each month in 2016 for a new hop filled with great cards.

I have to admit, I had a hard time coming up with some ways to implement this technique, but, with a little encouragement from my hopping buddies Kim & Claudia, I managed to come up with a few examples.

 

 

My first card is filled with tons of pretty colors thanks to the Tim Holtz distress ink pads.  This image was stamped onto a piece of white card stock and then masked with a post-it-note so that I could create that background behind the image with out messing up the image.  I colored the elephants in with my Copic markers.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The 2nd card is using the same technique.  I messed up a little with the orange behind the owl, so I decided to make it into a big ‘ole orange moon .. yes, I know that moons are not orange but it was the easiest way to fix up my mess, lol.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Next up is a technique I saw that really intrigued me so I decided to give it a go with this card.  I always have a lot of trouble coming up with masculine ideas for cards but I think this one would work for such an occasion.  It is supposed to have a wood grain look to it.  How’d I do?  It’s a little bare but I’m not quite sure what to add to it to finish it off.

My daughter thought maybe I should add some greens to it but I don’t think that worked out so well, lol.  Leave me a comment and tell me what you would do.

 

 

 

Card #4 was created using a handmade stencil.  I used my Cricut Explore to cut the hearts out of a piece of cardstock and using the negative piece, I sponged some Tim Holtz ink onto a piece of white cardstock.  Once that was dry, I dabbed some more ink over the hearts and the rest of the white cardstock.  The baker’s twine is made from a piece of white string and a copic marker.  You can check out this post for more details on how to do that.  I had this little bronze embellishment in my stash and thought it was just perfect for this card.

 

 

Remember participating in Art & Creativity time in kindergarten and dropping blobs of liquid paint onto manila paper and blowing through a straw to move the paint around.  Well, that’s what inspired my last card for today.  Isn’t it pretty?!
