It's month three of our year long adventure into different card-making techniques,
folds and paper crafting products. We hope you got the chance to hop with us in January for the emboss resist technique and in February for ink layering. It's not to late to hop and comment.

If you missed January's hop, you can still hop and comment by starting HERE.
If you missed February's hop, you can still hop and comment by starting HERE.

This month we will be focusing on inlaid die-cutting and you won't want to miss the awesome cards we've got for you today. We really love feedback so please leave a comment on each of the blogs in today's hop. Each comment on the 12 hops throughout the year will be entered into a drawing for a $25 Blitsy.com gift certificate.

Now on with the projects.

I have a few cards for you today.  The first one uses this gorgeous butterfly.  I purchased it just for this hop. This card was made using distress inks & wet wipes .. a combination based purely on accident.  I cut and scored some 120 lb cardstock for my card base and set it aside.  After stamping the butterfly on another piece of white card stock with versamark, I pulled out a wet wipe to clean off my stamp.  I sat the wipe aside and embossed the butterfly with some black embossing powder & heat-set it.  Then, I pulled out my Bic Mark-Its to color my butterfly all kinds of pretty colors.  Once all of that was done, I used the coordinating die to make a perfect cut around my butterfly.

Butterfly Close_inlaid_apieceofheartblogI was about to use the die-cut on the front of the card to prepare for the inlaid part of the card when I realized that I had sat the wipe on top of my card base.  I quickly picked the wipe up and noticed it left an interesting texture on the cardstock.  Well, you all know how much I hate waste so I decided to roll with it and began dabbing that wet wipe over the front of the card stock.  It’s hard to tell in the picture what a pretty pattern it made.  After it dried, I used my blending tool to rub some distress inks all over the card.  I’m not sure I exactly like the end product but what’s a girl to do, lol.  I laid the butterfly inside the cut-out but only adhered one side down so that it appeared to be flying . and this completed my card.

I decided to go clean and simple with my 2nd card.  There isn’t much to it.  Basically, I used my Cricut electronic cutting machine to make a template of rows of circles.  I used the same file to cut paper dots out of 7 different colors of cardstock.  I covered the back of my template with adhesive, turned it over and began laying the colored dots inside the holes. Once that was finished, I adhered it to another piece of cardstock to give it a border on each side.  I used one of my FREE sentiments that I created almost two years ago because it seemed to be a fitting quote.  I was going to print it right on the card base but I wasn’t able to do that so I just printed it on a separate piece of card stock, cut it out and glued that to the card.  Once again, I’m not sure how I feel about the outcome.  This technique is not as easy as it appears .. at least not for me.

You Are My Sunshine-stand_inlaid_apieceofheartblog

The last card I have for you today is my favorite.  I just love the colors so much!  Again, it’s a pretty basic card but it’s really cheery, don’t you think?   This time, I used my Silhouette Cameo to cut the sunshine out of a piece of white cardstock.  I sponged Abandoned Coral and Squeezed Lemonade across it to give a sort of sunset appearance to it.  On a separate piece of cardstock, I began rubbing the same color of distress inks over it to make a gradient effect. I started with Abandoned Coral and sponged about an inch long strip across the page.  Then I used the Squeezed Lemonade and rubbed over a small section of the Abandoned Coral to create a blended orange’ish color and continued rubbing it up the cardstock so that it blended out to the full yellow lemonade color.  I adhered that to the bottom side of my cut-out piece.  I cut out a narrow border for the sunshine in black cardstock, covered it in clear embossing powder, and laid that just inside the opening to create the inlaid look.  I adhered that to some coordinating patterned paper, printed off my sentiment, cut it to create a flag,  then adhered that to the bottom corner of the card. I used some dimensionals to give it a rolled appearance.

That’s it for me.  I’m last in this hop but don’t forget to visit the rest of these talented and creative ladies on their blogs if you haven’t already done so.  Here’s the rest of today's line-up in case you get lost along the way.

  3. Sharon, these are fabulous. I know you said you were going simple on that second one, but those circles are fabulous. I love the border panel you created there. And that sentiment is perfect. Love your "sunshine" card. The color is gorgeous. Beautiful work, and great hopping with you.
