NO MORE Word Verification

Ok, so I tried for - what? - a few hours, lol.  I keep going back and forth on this issue but I'm now 100% sure that word verification as a spam catcher is not the way to go.  I'm still unsure of how I'm going to combat this nasty little spam devil but it won't be by word verification, I can tell you that.  I'm thinking I might give moderation a try but that may not last long either, lol.

Thanks for sticking with me :-)

As you may have noticed, I have set the blog so that you need to use word verification in order to post.  I know this can be a pain, but unfortunately, I have been receiving so many anonymous emails that I can’t keep up.  I feel like word verification is the lesser of two evils.  I hope that you understand and this doesn’t stop you from leaving me comments because I truly enjoy reading what you have to say!

  1. I had this problem to a horrible degree a few months ago. I kept noticing that the spammers were pinpointing certain older posts. I just went into each of those older posts (there were about 5 or 6 of them) and turned off the comments in each one. POOF...no more constant spamming!!

  2. People need to find more productive things to do in life - like make cards and scrapbook layouts - don't ya think? There are always going to be these type of SAD people in the world - yes, I view it as sad - they THINK they are being clever, but deep down they are sad people - that is my story and I am sticking to it -I am going to my corner now - I hope the suggestion from Amy works - thanks Amy - I will try to remember that tip - however, I do the moderation - it works great for me - maybe be cause I check it often - I do not know - I find it easier - have a great day Sharon.

    1. I agree, Gail lol. I am getting the kind of spam that says things like this:

"Hi everyone, it's my first go to see at this web page, and paragraph is genuinely fruitful in support of me, keep up posting these articles.
Feel free to surf my web site ::"

Grrrrrrrrr. So many of them, too. But at least they are easy to spot and so I can just click delete and poof they are gone but it annoys me, lol. At least they don't usually end up in the actual post comments so that's a relief. I am going to try Amy's idea. It's brilliant!

Thanks for your visit today and for your input as well.

  3. Thank you for turning it off, lol! It drives me absolutely crazy. Just a few minutes ago I punched in any letters after getting the run-around with a blog I was visiting and it let it go through, LOL! Go figure :)

  4. I don't use word verification nor moderation. The blogger thing does a really good job catching the spam. I get all comments by email and I get the comment but when I check my blog it is not there but in a spam folder which I then delete. In the year and half I've had my blog I've only had 2 spam comments post on my blog and since I get it by email and I check that often, I deleted it right away.

  5. I had this problem two months ago and what I did is to allow only registered commenters, no more annonimous commenters and the problem stopped. I also moderate the comments and this works perfectly :)

  6. How about picture verification, it's quick to do, but don't use Deposit File.
